Words That Don’t Exist In Spanish But Are Frequently Used

istock

Parquear: To park

Parqueate alli y listen up: Parquear is as real a word—in English or Spanish—as supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! If you’re going to park your car, your bike or your booty anywhere and want to tell someone about it in Spanish, say estacionar.

Bloque: Neighborhood block

Okay, so a lot of Latinos are especially guilty of using this one. But just because bloque is popular, it doesn’t mean that it’s a real word. Tell your neighbors and friends on el bloque that the correct word for block is cuadra.

Bildin: Building

When you say bildin, you’re essentially mimicking a native Spanish-speaker’s attempt at pronouncing “building.” The correct word is edificio.
