The 8 Winners of the 2013 Hispanic Heritage Awards!

The Hispanic Heritage Award winners have been announced and we could not be prouder! The awards were established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month. The awards honor Latino leaders who have made a positive impact in various fields. This year, the awards will be held on September 5 and will air on MundoFox on September 15. See who was honored below!

1. Hispanic Heritage: Eva Longoria

With her political involvement and philanthropic causes, it’s no wonder Mexican American Eva is being honored at this year’s award ceremony.



2. Hispanic Heritage: Jose Andres

Jose Andres

The Spanish chef is often credited with bringing tapas, or small plates, to America. He owns restaurants allover the U.S., in cities like D.C., Las Vegas and South Beach. 

3. Hispanic Heritage: Diego Luna

Diego Luna

The Mexican actor and director will be directing his first English-language film Chavez, a biopic about Cesar Chavez, who founded the United Farm workers.


4. Hispanic Heritage: Los Tigres del Norte

Los Tigres Del Norte

The norteño-based ensemble out of California was started by Jorge Hernandez, his brothers and his cousins, and has helped launch norteño music into an international genre. The band has won 5 Latin Grammy Awards and has sold more than 32 million albums. 

5. Hispanic Heritage: Alberto Carvalho

Alberto Carvalho

Carvalho is the superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest school district in the nation. He was appointed to his position in 2008, and has been integral in improving teaching quality in Miami schools. 

6. Hispanic Heritage: Maria Teresa Kumar

Maria Teresa Kumar

President and CEO of Voto Latino, Kumar is an Emmy-nominated contributor with MSNBC, serves on national boards for Latino Leaders Network and Planned Parenthood, and has been named as one of the 10 most powerful women in D.C. by Elle magazine. Voto Latino has registered more than 225,000 new voters. 

7. Hispanic Heritage: Lucero


Mexican actress and singer Lucero has sold over 27 million albums worldwide and began her career at the age of 10!

8. Hispanic Heritage: Juan Pablo Montoya

Juan Pablo Montoya

Colombian race car driver is internationally known, and is one of the few drivers who has participated in NASCAR, Formula One and CART race competitions.
