Although there is much public controversy on Michelle Obama's choice to vacation in Southern Spain with her nine-year-old daughter, Sasha, and friends, we must admit it is a fabulous destination. Here are a few highlights of their trip:
Wednesday, Day one: Mother and daughter (along with security and friends) strolled along the cobbled streets of old town Marbella stopping at small shops.

I recently took my partner with me to vacation in my home country, Colombia. We'd never seen the city of Santa Marta, located in the northern part of the country (a three hour drive from Cartagena), but once we arrived we knew it was magical. There's a reason why Colombians go there to vacation—it boasts an intoxicating mix of the Caribbean sea, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains and pure serenity.

Lonely Planet has named El Salvador as one of the top ten destinations of 2010. Noting that the Central American country often gets overlooked by travelers in favor of Costa Rica and Guatemala, the publication points out that most visitors to El Salvador will have the beaches to themselves. Only Punta Roca, El Salvador's most famous surfing spot, is frequently overrun with people.

When people picture Los Cabos, they tend to think about spring break and drunken debauchery. But as I discovered on a recent trip down, there is much more going on than a lively bar scene where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific Ocean. Although Cabo San Lucas is the more well-known of the two Cabos, I found San Jose del Cabo to be more quaint and inviting. The whole town has a homey, communal feel to it and around every corner there is a cool art gallery or delicious restaurant to discover.
