Latina's Travel Guide to Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

Take a break from Cancun and Cabo to explore this buzzed about beach destination, which boasts everything from surfer villages and nature sanctuaries to luxury resorts and cool shopping spots.

1. Where to stay:

Punta de Mita, the exclusive, gated enclave where you can find the Four Seasons – which boasts breathtaking rock formation views from its private beach — and a relaxing lazy river that will make you feel like you're vacationing in the jungle … with all the comforts that come along with impeccable Four Seasons service. Next door, the St. Regis's stunning infinity pools and Remède spa are just as impressive as its restaurant, Carolina.

2. What to do:

Visit Sayulita, a Bohemian surfing town that is equal parts fishing village, surfer paradise, and ex-pat community. Stop by the many shops for deals on everything from unique jewelry and fashion accessories to home decor. Our favorite is Revolución del Sueño.

3. Where to eat:

Don Pedro’s, nestled under a thatched palapa and overlooking a cove of surfers and sun bathers, you'll enjoy delicious fish tacos and tuna tartare here.

4. Where to drink:

Si Señor, which serves serious margaritas and a queso fundido con chorizo you will dream about, is great for an afternoon of beachside boozing. At night, live music and dancing can be found at Bar don Pato in Sayulita.

5. Where to spa:

World Spa at the Marival Resort customizes its services with treatments and themed rooms that represent all four corners of the globe.

6. What not to miss:

Marietas Islands, a hidden beach and bird sanctuary that offers exquisite snorkeling off its shore. Take one of the many boats leaving from Nuevo Vallarta, which specialize in whale watching along the way.
