Walking into a spa, you expect a lot of things. Pampering and de-stressing are usually at the top of that list. Comida, not so much. Will there be tea, cucumber water, some dried apricots and mangos? Sure. But a full multi-course meal is not typically in the works.
That's not the case, however, at Sea Spa Lands End at the Grand Solmar Lands End Resort & Spa in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which is arguably one of the best hotel, spa, culinary — and "culinary spa" — experiences you can find on the Baja peninsula.
Picture this: At the very tip of Cabo, just a stone's throw away from the famed El Arco, you're overlooking a secluded beach, perched high in a hidden palapa (which doubles as your treatment room). On the private balcony just outside your room, there’a sitting area where you can relax and listen to the waves crash as your therapist preps your treatment inside. You'll technically start your spa experience with a small palette cleanser/amuse bouche before sinking into the relaxation of your themed treatment, which could consist of a moonlit couples massage, a "Detox Facial Cure" deep cleansing facial, or our favorite, the Pre-Hispanic massage which utilizes a rebozo for deeper stretching and muscle adjustments and relief.
After your treatment, as you enter a state of relaxation bliss, your therapist will bring you to a nearby private dining palapa where you'll experience a second round of bliss — food bliss! Immersed in the comfort of a soft robe, you'll be presented a multi-course paired meal at a relaxing pace. Dishes include Cucumber Gazpacho with pico de gallo and jícama, green sea bass ceviche, horchata with a cinnamon, nut and almond rim, and even a dessert — Popocatépetl (lava cake) of chocolate served on a corn leaf with mint sauce. The food is such a special part of the overall experience at Sea Spa at Lands End that you should make sure to show up hungry and plan your treatment around a regular meal time if you can.
The only thing that can really top this experience is making it a part of an overall stay at Grand Solmar, which is the perfect Cabo getaway for a mini-moon, honeymoon, babymoon or quiet family vacation. Tucked away behind granite rock formations just a few miles from the fun of downtown (El Squid Roe, anyone? And if you don’t know, just go.), Solmar brings low-key relaxation and service to a new level. The hotel is full of gorgeous infinity pools (complete with swim-up bars), cozy fire pits, superb al fresco dining and one-of-a-kind experiences, like a tequila tasting or the unique opportunity to partake in a Temazcal sweat lodge/spiritual healing ritual at sister property, Playa Grande, which is just next door.
