Ecuador Just Spent $3.8 Million on a Super Bowl Ad

Ecuador will make history this Super Bowl Sunday as the first foreign country to have a tourism commercial air during the biggest night in football. The country — which has a population of just about 15.7 million people — paid a staggering $3.8 million for the advertisement as part of a billion-dollar inviative to improve travel infrastructure. 

The 30-second advertisement, which will air during halftime, plays to the tune of "All You Need Is Love" by The Beatles. The commercial is part of a broader "All You Need Is Ecuador" campaign aimed at American tourists.

According to Yahoo! Travel, the United States is the country's second-largest tourism market. An estimated one-in-four American tourists visit the country specifically to tour the infamous Galapagos Islands.

However, the country wants Americans — and the world — to know that they have much to offer beyond the lush archipelago.

In 2014, Quito, Ecuador took home the honor as "South America's Leading Destination" for the second year in the row. The Ecuadorian capital boasts some of the most exquisite, old-world architecture in South America, making it a must-see for world travelers.
