When Pew first began asking about social networking sites back in Feb. 2005, a mere 8 percent of online adults said they were active users. Latinos' 80 percent is up from 72 percent in 2012.
Back in February, we reported on another study conducted by the Pew Research Center’s same project, which found that 26 percent of black Internet users and 19 percent of Latinos prefer Twitter. This is in comparison to 14 percent of white users.
In addition to Latinos and blacks being very active on social media, the groups are also leading the way in terms of purchasing smartphones and tablets. According to a March 2012 Nielsen study, 57.3 percent of Latino phone owners (and 54.4 percent of black phone owners own smartphones - in comparison to 44.7 percent of whites.
