A Latina's Sticky Past (And Present) With Her Mami & The Cell Phone

It’s long been reported that Latinos are extremely savvy smartphone users. According to new analysis of three surveys by the Pew Research Center, Latinos go online from a mobile device and use social networking sites at sometimes higher rates than do other groups of Americans. We also love us some Twitter and Instagram (huge fan here).

Now that I'm older and am actually living states apart from my mother, I check in with her often. In fact, I often call her first. My phone earbuds snuggled comfortably in my ears, I joke with my mom almost every morning as I walk to the subway station. Sure, she still calls me multiple times a day to remind me to pay my loans and stay on top of yoga, and I still cringe if her name lights up multiple times on my phone if I'm with company. But if it weren't for this device, I wouldn't be able to move so freely and grow as close to my mother.

With all that said, I'm grateful for the cell phone.
