Anti-Immigrant Sheriff Joe Arpaio Defeated in Arizona

Joe Arpaio's 23-year reign in Arizona is over.

The controversial sheriff, a Republican who has been accused of racially profiling Latinxs in his state, lost to Democrat Paul Penzone on Tuesday.

Bazta Arpaio, a campaign created to end the sheriff's rule, started a victory march in Pheonix. "Ya cayo, ya cayo," the group wrote in excited in a Facebook post.
