Classy, Rand Paul.
At a fundraiser for Iowa's Republican Rep. Steve King, the U.S. Senator from Kentucky bolted when confronted by one of the attendees -- a DREAMer named Erika Andiola.
Andiola and Cesar Vargas, the co-directors of the DREAM Action Coalition (DRM), approached the table to speak with King and Paul about their policies concerning undocumented immigrants. As soon as Andiola admitted she was a DREAMer, Paul dropped his burger and left the table in a hurry.
In the video circulated by the DRM, King stuck around and engaged in a back-and-forth conversation with the two DREAMers. King has been extremely critical of Barack Obama's 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order, which allowed hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants to stay in the country without the threat of deportation.
"I know you want to get rid of DACA's," Andiola told the congressman as she handed him her DACA card. "I want to give you the opportunity, if you really want to get rid of it. Rip mine."
The conversation escalated from there, and King's controversial statement about immigrants being drug-smugglers became a point of contention. "I spoke of drug smugglers. Now, you're not going to tell me you're one of them, are you?" he asked.
"Do I look like a drug smuggler to you?" she countered.
"You can tell me," he said.
"I'm not a drug smuggler, of course not. I graduated from Arizona State University. I have my master's degree."
According to Politico, neither Paul nor King's office have responded to requests for comment.
