In time, undocumented immigrants in Puerto Rico will be able to obtain temporary driver’s licenses.
According to NBC Latino, Alejandro Javier García Padilla signed into law a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for a license in about a year. Both undocumented immigrants and migrant workers will be able to apply for 6-year drivers licenses.
Licenses granted to undocumented immigrants will be designed differently than regular licenses, NBC Latino reports, but will not state the ID holder’s immigration status. In addition to that, those who hold these licenses will only be able to use them for operating motor vehicles and proving identity.
