New York's Mayoral Race: John Liu

What about creating good jobs, not just low-paying service jobs?

First, we stop corporate subsidies, which don’t create jobs, and reduce the tax burden on entrepreneurs and small business owners. This has the potential to create far more jobs. The city has to do a better job at directing purchasing power to give more minority entrepreneurs. As comptroller, the pension investment program that I initiated on the bond front has opened the doors to many minority and women entrepreneurs.

How would you keep New York a city of immigrants?

Immigrants have been a part of our social and economic fabric. I am hopeful that a national comprehensive immigration reform will pass and there is more equal opportunity and protection for all immigrants.  In the meantime, I will continue to enforce compliance by all city employees who are not allowed act as immigration police.
