As president-elect Donald Trump spreads dangerous myths about undocumented immigrants, Adriano Espaillat’s existence and historic win as the first-ever Dominican-American elected into Congress shatters them all.
Espaillat, 62, is a formerly undocumented Afro-Latino, and soon he will represent New York's 13th Congressional District, which includes upper Manhattan and a part of the Bronx – areas with a significant Black and brown population.
"I am deeply grateful to the people of the 13th Congressional District for electing me to serve as their next Congressman," the dominicano, who was a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, said on Twitter.
Congrats, Espaillat. Your win is the hope Latinxs need right now.
