Cervical Cancer and Latinas: How to Protect Yourself

According to the American Cancer Society, Latinas in the U.S. are twice as likely to be diagnosed with cervical cancer in comparison to non-Hispanic white women. We are also less likely to get regular checkups, making the death rate among us 50% higher than white women’s. And a new survey from the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation showed that while 89% of women don’t feel they’re at risk, 80% will get HPV in their lifetime. These are scary stats for the second most common cancer among women worldwide.

Fidel Castro Finally Speaks, Praises President Obama

After several months of silence, ailing former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Wednesday finally resurfaced. Castro, 82, posted to his column on Cuban-run website cubadebate.cu. According to Reuters UK, at one point in 2008, he was averaging 8 columns a month; the most recent message from Castro comes after more than a month of absence, leading to speculation over his ill health.

Billionaire Carlos Slim Helú Invests $250 Million in NY Times

The New York Times announced this week that it had accepted a 250 million dollar loan from Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim Helú. The money is intended to help the ailing newspaper giant keep its multiple businesses afloat.

Mr. Slim already owns 6.9% of the Times Company, and according to the terms of the contract will invest $250 million more in the form of six-year notes.
