A recent NY Times article highlighted a startling new beauty trend gaining popularity among Latinas. Many women have begun to use silicone injections as a way to plump their thighs and rear ends. Medical and industrial-grade silicone is being administered by shady cosmetologists at "plumping parties" to women who don't realize the potentially deadly side effects of the procedure.

I can’t believe we’re only one week into this challenge and I’m already struggling. I thought once we started my mind would just shift gears and I’d be well on my way to 90+ lbs bliss. Old habits sure die hard! I might have gone shopping for all the right foods, but they aren’t making their way into my mouth.

President Barack Obama is going to have a lot on his plate at the fifth Summit of the America's, kicking off today in the small island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Although circumstances have drastically changed since the last Summit four years ago when President Bush was met with violent protests and the ire of President Hugo Chavez in Argentina, Latin American leaders are hoping that an even more dramatic shift will occur in relations between the United States and the region, which has been largely ignored by US politicians since the start of the Iraq war.

The Gansevoort South
Opened in Fall '08

William and Michael Achenbaum had bigger and better plans for their latest Gansevoort hotel. Given the huge success of Gansevoort NY it only made sense to open this stylish urban resort filled with high–end shops, restaurants, and nightlife in an up-and-coming part of Miami. The rooms are large and decorated in classic Art Deco style. A huge shark tank filled with hundreds of fish takes over the lobby, but the main attraction is the rooftop pool and lounge, Plunge, that stretches 24k sq ft and has phenomenal views of the city and ocean. You can also chill at the beach, pool plaza, or beach club, although at times it can be a bit of a party. The Gansevoort also has some super–yummy restaurants, like the very chic Phillipes, and the soon-to-open STK. This hotel is for the traveler that is used to the finer things and wants to live the luxe Miami lifestyle.

Room rate: $400–$700 per night
