Why Are Fewer Minority Children Diagnosed with ADHD?

Dr. Tanya Froehlich, an ADHD researcher at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, mentioned there being “more wariness and concern in African American groups,” with regards to ADHD diagnoses.

“A lot of people are very concerned about their child being labeled and their child being stigmatized both in the school and socially,” she said.

This is not a new issue to the minority community – in particular to the Latino community. Back in 2011, we reported on the low likelihood of Latino children to be diagnosed with a learning disability.
