Mexico City Installs "Penis Seat" in Subway to Bring Attention to Sexual Harassment

The Mexico City Metro is hoping to tackle the rampant issue of sexual harassment with a new, and odd, campaign: a penis seat.

Officials have installed a seat molded in the likeness of a man's torso and penis in the subway's busiest train, its No. 7 line. The seat, labeled "for men only," also includes a sign on the floor that reads, “it is annoying to travel this way, but not compared to the sexual violence women suffer in their daily commutes.”

The campaign comes after researchers learned that as much as 65 percent of women in Mexico City have been harassed on the city's buses or trains. Even more, “nine out of 10 women in Mexico City have been victims of some form of sexual violence”
