WATCH: 11-Year-Old Mexican American National Anthem Singer Responds to Racism

“People don't know, they just assume that I'm just Mexican, but I'm not from Mexico,” the boy said. “I'm from San Antonio, born and raised.”

The boy known as “El Charro de Oro” added that his father served in the U.S. Navy for a long time.

“I actually salute him today for that,” he said, “I want to thank him.” De la Cruz also said that those who made racist remarks about him don’t know his life. Just as he received plenty of hate, the young singer also received a lot of support on social media. Professional boxer Victor Cruz tweeted this earlier today: “To the little guy #SebastianDeLaCruz you have nothing to be ashamed of I too am American/Mexican ITS A FREE CNTRY! USA is made of all RACES!” the tweet read.

Not only is De La Cruz American, but he said he's a “true San Antonio Spurs fan” - with a small smile.

What do people have to say now?
