Hispanic or Latino? Apparently, We Don't Care

A new poll suggests that Latinos don’t care whether they get called a “Hispanic” or “Latino,” the Huffington Post Latino Voices reports.

A Gallup poll released last Friday titled “Gallup's Minority Rights and Relations” asked 1,000 Latinos (err, Hispanics) whether they prefer the term “Latino” or “Hispanic.” About 70 percent said it didn’t matter, and 10 percent preferred the term “Latino.” According to the poll results, 19 percent opted for “Hispanic.”

The poll was conducted between June 13 and July 5, and also polled 1,010 African-Americans about whether they prefer being called “African-American” or “black.”
