Eight Girls Rescued From Sex Trafficking in Pre-Olympic Rio Sweep

Eight girls were rescued from a sex trafficking ring near the main Olympic hub in Rio de Janeiro, police said Sunday.

According to the officers, three of the young women found were 15 or 16 years old and had been forced to work as prostitutes on the beaches of the Recreio neighborhood.

The sweep is part of a larger investigative operation in the area, where child sex tourism is widespread, ahead of the 2016 Olympics.
