Authorities began the investigation of the accused, later identified as Chuim Antonio, back in April when the first instances of his abuse emerged. While April has only been some months ago, sadly, the number of allegations has skyrocketed and may continue to do so.

The 41-year-old was arrested at the Mushuc Pacari Bilingual Educational Unit, located north of the capital, in the Calderón neighborhood. According to several Ecuadorian news outlets, the teacher would gain students' trust by offering them food or drinks and then offer to give them a ride home. It was on the ride home that he reportedly sexually abused them. Reports indicate that the heinous crimes were committed throughout the 2016-2017 school year – all victims ranging from the age of 12 to 14.

While the case began with 10 accusations, it has increased to a staggering total of 85 victims who have come out to tell their heartbreaking story. Mariana Huilcapi, the prosecutor of this case, explained the investigation at a recent press conference and mentioned that he and other authority figures offer "immediate support to the victims during the investigation.” While he also explained that the investigation began a few months before the Ecuadorian teacher was arrested in July, he did not mention much more detail, as the investigation is still underway.
