A word to the wise: you probably won't be elected President of the United States by bashing on the largest minority group in the nation.

Donald Trump seems to have missed that memo. In a bombastic presidential campaign announcement on Tuesday, Trump railed against Latinos, alleging that our neighbor to the south, Mexico, intentionally sends criminals to the United States. He also announced his desire to build a wall on the United States border and make Mexico pay for it.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best," he said. "They're not sending you... They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."

Unsurprisingly, the National Council of La Raza couldn't be less amused by Trump's "absurd" claims. "This is a man who has a pathological need for attention," said Lisa Navarrete, a spokeswoman for NCLR. "I look at him as a two-year-old who will say a naughty word to get their parents' attention. That's what he's doing."

Trump joins an already-bloated Republican field that includes Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul, former Gov. Rick Perry, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio and others. Democrats, however, don't seem to be concerned about the growing number of GOP candidates.

"Today, Donald Trump became the second major Republican candidate to announce for president in two days," said Democratic National Convention press secretary Holly Shulman in a statement. "He adds some much-needed seriousness that has previously been lacking from the GOP field, and we look forward [to] hearing more about his ideas for the nation." Ouch.
