Noooooooo! This is seriously the stuff of nightmares and reality TV shows. A Brazilian woman searching for her long-lost mother ended up finding her — while also finding out she had inadvertently married her brother.
Yes, you read that right. According to the Daily Mail, the Brazilian couple had found out they had the same mother, after years of trying to track down each others' respective parent. Adriana, 39, and husband Leandro, 37, had never imagined that their searches would lead them to the same person. Though they both knew the mother that had abandoned them was named "Maria," the timelines never stuck out to them as matching. Adriana hadn't seen her mother since she was one, while Leandro found out at age eight that the mother he had known was actually his stepmother.
Adriana left her hometown and married, but after her marriage fell apart, she moved back to her hometown. The couple met ten years ago, and soon fell in love. Still searching for her mother, Adriana called into a radio program that specialized in finding lost relatives. There, live on air, she spoke with her long-lost mother, who also revealed that she had another child she abandoned -- named Leandro. It was clear that it was her husband she was speaking about, and Adriana is heard crying on air.
"I don't believe that you're telling me this. Leandro is my husband," she said on air. "Now I'm scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn't want me any more. I love him so much."
Adriana and Leandro (who never married legally) told the program, Radio Globo, that they would stay together, despite being related.
"Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen," she said. "Of course it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn't and we fell in love."
Asked about whether they had an inkling that they might be related, given they were both from the same hometown, abandoned and with the same name to go on, Adriana responded:
"We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence. At first we were really knocked by it all. But we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think."
'We have so many plans together, nothing's going to break us up, nothing.'
