Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has made a move that could put a further strain on the relationship between Venezuela and the United States.
According to The New York Times, Maduro expelled the top U.S. diplomat and two other embassy officials from the country on Monday.
“Get out of Venezuela! Yankee go home!” Maduro exclaimed, as he announced the expulsions during a military event commemorating the 200 year anniversary of a battle in Venezuela’s war of independence.
“We have detected a group of officials of the United States Embassy in Caracas, in Venezuela, and we have been tracking them for several months,” the Venezuelan president said during a live TV broadcast, according to The New York Times.
