U.S. Capitol Locked Down Temporarily After Shots Fired

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Thursday, a woman driving a black luxury sedan, with her child in the back seat, rammed through a barrier at the White House, then sped to Capitol Hill.

According to Fox News Latino, this led to a police chase where authorities shot and killed the suspect. Miriam Carey, the 34-year-old Connecticut woman who was driving the vehicle, reportedly suffered from post-partum depression.

"She had post-partum depression after having the baby" last August, the woman's mother, Idella Carey told ABC News. "A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. She was hospitalized."

USA Today reports that luckily, Carey's one-year-old daughter who was in the backseat, was unharmed. Authorities have yet to determine a motive for her actions.
