The armed gunman is a student named James Eric Davis who opened fire at the fourth floor of Campbell Hall dorm in Mount Pleasant Michigan.

Neither of the fatally shot victims were students, NBC reports.

"We believe this situation was a domestic type incident," said Lt. Larry Klaus of the CMU campus police. "He was last seen running in a northbound direction." The shooting comes weeks after the deadly high school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 people and ignited the gun reform debate. After news of the shooting, Marjory Stoneman Douglass student survivors took to Twitter to condone the inaction of lawmakers for sensible gun laws.
