When news broke in February 2012 that unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin had been fatally shot by a Sanford, FL neighboorhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman; it rocked the nation. Many people had a hard time understanding why Zimmerman chose to go to the extremes he did.
Zimmerman, who identifies himself as Hispanic, has maintained his claim that he shot Martin in self-defense. A whole year and four months later, the Trayvon Martin case is finally starting to move along. Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder and a trial is underway.
According to The New York Times, a jury for Zimmerman's trial has finally been selected. It's a jury of six females! The jurors, none of whom are black, include a Hispanic woman with eight children, an animal rescuer who once had a concealed-weapons permit, and a woman who said she had used Martin’s death as a cautionary example for her two adolescent children. Nearly all of these jurors have children.
