Texas Town Trying to Suppress Latino Voters

Houston suburb, Pasadena, is reportedly taking steps to make it harder for voters to elect Latino candidates.

The Huffington Post reports that the mayor of the town, Johnny Isabel, is proposing Pasadena make demographic changes to its current voting system.

"This decision by the Mayor and the majority of the Council is exactly the type of change the Voting Rights Act was intended to prevent,” said Texas State Senator Sylvia Garcia.

“I am extremely disappointed that the Council approved this charter amendment despite the opposition by the citizen's commission and the minority community," she continued in her statement.
