Flea Market Abortions on the Rise in Texas

Bloomberg reports that the pills, called Cytotec, require a prescription in the U.S. and are designed to prevent stomach ulcers, but they can also induce abortion.

Health-care providers in the valley, one of the state and nation’s poorest regions, have said that they've seen an increasing number of women suffering from incomplete abortions and bleeding after taking drugs such as these unsupervised.

With more than a third of the Valley's women living in poverty, flea market abortions have become the best possible solution. The pills cost $40, while at the nearest legal provider, a pharmaceutical abortion costs $550.
