After several years of protests and marches, a Latina teen’s efforts to bring her parents’ deportation to the nation’s consciousness is paying off.
According to NBC Latino, 13-year-old Kathy Figueroa finally heard some good news with regards to her parents. This week, an immigration judge reportedly granted a Department of Homeland Security’s motion to administratively close deportation proceedings for the teen’s parents, Carlos and Sandra Figueroa.
“I think that people with families noticed our case right away. There is a way to fight for what you want, especially if you want to get your family out of jail,” the young Figueroa said. “You can’t just sit at home crying instead of learning what you can do to help.”
