Ecuador Foreign Minister Says Asylum for Snowden Could Take Months

Patino refused to share what criteria Ecuador would use to make the decision, but he did say that the country will consider all risks, including concerns that helping Snowden would hurt trade with the U.S. and damage Ecuador's economy.

The Foreign Minister added that the country would provide protection for Snowden while considering his request for asylum, if the NSA leaker goes to the embassy for them to make a decision.

Snowden is being charged with violating American espionage laws.
