5 Things You Need to Know This Morning

 1. A soldier opened fire near Paris’ Louvre museum at 10:00 a.m. local time.

According to the capital’s police force, the man shouted “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) during the shooting. The shooter was reportedly shooting at a man with a machete in an underground mall. A confrontation began when a patrol of soldiers told the man was told he could not proceed into the mall with his bags. “That’s when he got the knife out and that’s when he tried to stab the soldier,” officers say. The shooter then rushed at the soldiers before one opened fire on him. The attacker has been taken to a hospital in Paris for treatment. (NBC News)

2. Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has stepped away from President Trump's economic advisory council, explaining that he didn't want his work with the White House to be misconstued as approval of its policies. (USA Today)
