A month after the mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas, another shooting occurred at a suburban Wal-Mart in Thornton, Colorado.
Thornton Police Department reported the shooting on Wednesday evening via Twitter warning people to please stay away from that area. At least two men have been reported dead and one woman died in the hospital. Gonzalo Benitez, a construction worker, said there were “A lot of people crying, running fast.” Mr. Benitez had been buying food for his family when he heard six or seven gunshots and customers began screaming. “I see a couple of people on the floor.”
Thornton is city of about 120,000 people roughly 10 miles northeast of downtown Denver. The shooting occurred in The Thornton Town Center, a shopping center that includes other retailers such as a Home Depot, a McDonald’s, and a movie theatre.
The Wal-Mart is located only 18 miles from the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado where the 2012 theater shooting occurred.
The suspect, who fled the scene in a red Mitsubishi Mirage, is still at-large. Authorities are investigating the motive for the shooting.
