Several reports have claimed that Fidel Castro’s health decline is taking a rapid turn for the worst. As Fox News Latino reports, Venezuelan Dr. Jose Marquina, revealed to the Spanish-language publication El Nuevo Dia that the 86-year-old dictator suffered a massive stroke.

The doctor expressed to the Venezuelan press that his major source comes directly from President Hugo Chavez. In regards to the status of Castro’s health, Marquina said, “He suffered an embolic stroke and recognizes absolutely no one. The people with a condition of this nature have difficulty eating and, of course, they end up with total deficit in their neurologic capacities.”

During recent years, Castro has made it a point to stay out of the public eye. His last highly publicized appearance was when Pope Benedict XVI visited Cuba back in March.

According to Marquina, that may have been his final public greeting. “He could last weeks like that, but what I can say is that we’ll never again see him in public [again],” he said.

The Cuban government has not made any official comment in regards to Castro’s condition. However, two of his family members deny that his health has worsened.

His sister, Juanita Castro, expressed to the AP that the recent reports are “pure rumors.” In addition, his son, Alex Castro, told a Cuban newspaper that his father is “well” and “going about his daily life.”

What do you think about the reports?
