Forbes’s annual list of the World’s Billionaires, which was released yesterday, included among its 793 privileged names the head of Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, who falls in at number 701. (Another mexicano, Carlos Slim Helú, was at number 3 down from the second spot last year.) This year, the talked-about Forbes list was down by 332 billionaires, from 1,125 in 2008—this economy spares no one.

President Barack Obama spoke out about the recent violence that has enveloped our neighbor to the south and has begun to spill over from Mexico into the United States. He admitted that he has been weighing the possibility of moving National Guard troops to the border in an effort to contain the violence but ruled out immediate military action.
