Pope Gives Indulgences for Following Him on Twitter

Pope Francis is now on Twitter. It's true, the Pope has been tweeting since March of this year, and already has over two million followers.

According to MSN Now, the Vatican is offering indulgences to those who follow the Pope on Twitter during Catholic World Youth Day which is a week-long event that begins on July 22 in Rio de Janeiro.

Indulgences are said to reduce the time Catholics believe they will have to spend in purgatory after they have confessed and been absolved of their sins.

But senior Vatican officials have warned that it's not enough to just follow the Pope's tweets -- you still have to be faithful, go to church and confess your sins.

The Guardian reports that apart from the Pope's Twitter account, the Vatican has also launched an online news portal, a Facebook page, and it plans to use Pinterest as well.
