The Vatican announced this morning that the Roman Catholic Church will declare the late Pope John Paul II a saint.
CNN reports that Pope Francis signed the decree Friday morning. When Pope John Paul II passed, thousands gathered in St. Peter's Square chanting "Santo subito," which means Sainthood now.
He became "the blessed" John Paul II roughly six years after his death making this the fastest beatification in centuries.
The Vatican said that Pope John XXIII will also be declared a saint. No date has been announced for the canonization ceremony.
