NYPD Latino Law Enforcement Group Speaks Out Against English-Only Rule

The NYPD has reprimanded a total of 10 officers for speaking Spanish while on the job. Now the head of the National Latino Officers Association is ready to retaliate against the English-only policy.

According to Fox News Latino, the chairman of the association Anthony Miranda said the policy and its recent enforcement "is racist in its premise." Miranda stated that the officers' use of Spanish has never interfered with their day-to-day duties.

Miranda also made a point to suggest that the nine officers whom were written up for speaking Spanish were only written up because they had made unrelated discrimination complaints about the NYPD.

"The NYPD is using the language rules for retaliation against officers who filed for discrimination,” said Miranda. “They’re using the rules to create a hostile work environment, targeting Hispanic officers. It's a rule they can use to harass officers who speak different languages."
