Mexican Social Media Star Found Dead After Insulting One of Mexico’s Most Wanted Men

Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales, known online as, “El Pirata de Culiacán,” gained popularity from posting drunk videos of himself and poking fun at his weight.

He was born in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, the same area where drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman lived. He only lived with his grandmother and worked at a young age cleaning cars but his sense of humor had gained him 1 million followers on Facebook after a 2015 video of him passing out went viral.

According to Mexican news reports, on Monday December 18th, weeks after posting a video online of him drunkenly addressing drug cartel, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho" telling him to “suck his d**k,” the 17-year-old was gunned down at a nightclub. The teenager was found to have 15 to 18 bullet wounds from a group of armed individuals who burst in and fired at him, killing a 25-year-old bartender as well. The internet star was identified by authorities from his arm tattoos.  The notorious 51-year-old drug cartel has a $5 million bounty on his head and is responsible for Mexico's fastest-growing and deadliest cartel, the Jalisco Nueva Generación.

Authorities have not confirmed if the video is directly linked to the shooting.
