Mexican-American History Books Approved by Arizona Are Not Authored by Latinos

“There's not one Chicano author on the list that you're going to approve tonight,” Mexican American Studies supporter and author of the blog Three Sonorans, David Morales, told Tucson News Now. “How are you going to have Chicano perspectives with no Chicano authors?"

The list of books approved includes works by Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, U.S. historian Howard Zinn, and Asian-American historian Ronald Takaki, among others. Three texts by conservative historian Larry Schweikart are listed as “counter-texts.”

An official told the Huffington Post that other works are being considered in an ongoing process.
