Marc Anthony and his girlfriend Shannon de Lima dedicated their holiday weekend to helping children in need at the Children of Christ orphanage in the Dominican Republic. The salsa singer partnered with sports producer Henry Cardenas to help expand the facility, which will include a new resident hall, classrooms, and a baseball field, reports the AP.
The Boricua star, who was a strong supporter of President Obama's re-election campaign, previously helped raise more than $100,000 through his non-profit organization Maestro Cares. The foundation was launched in January 2012 to help disadvantaged children across Latin America.
“I’m blessed to be a part of this project,” said Anthony in a statement. “There are millions of children suffering throughout Latin America. Maestro Cares seeks to make a positive change for many of these children. I hope Maestro Cares will inspire others to do the same.”
