Man Steals Ambulance, Fatally Runs Over Latina EMT


An emergency medical technician was crushed to death Thursday night after a man stole her ambulance and violently ran her over.

Yadira Arroyo, a 14-year FDNY veteran, was caught beneath the wheels and dragged across an intersection before the vehicle came to a stop at 7:05 p.m. in the Soundview section of the Bronx, New York.

Arroyo, a mother of five, was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she died. She was 44.

Jose Gonzalez, 25, was arrested in connection to the crime. According to police, the man, who happened to live on the same block as Arroyo, was high on drugs during the time of the killing.

"I'm innocent. I didn't do nothing," he said.

Gonzalez is being charged with three counts of murder, grand larceny and operating a motor vehicle while impaired on drugs.
