While some people travel to Peru to experience classic tourist sites like Machu Picchu, many are traveling all the way to South America for some of the most exotic fusion cuisine on the planet. Frommers.com, a website that prides itself in providing unique travel destination information, has named Lima, Peru a top food and drink destination of 2012.
The website cites the blend of Spanish, African, Chinese, and Japanese influences as one of the reasons the cuisine found in this South American city is so unique and amazing. These culinary fusions like limeño, nikkei, and chaufa, are all rooted in creole, Japanese, and Peruvian-style Chinese flavors, respectively.
Frommers.com says that Lima’s signature dish, ceviche, happens to be a Latin classic with a fresh taste that can be found at trendy restaurants like La Mar. Meanwhile, the website suggests checking out Bar Huaringas or Picas on the seaside to try a pisco sour – Peru’s national cocktail drink. Pisco has started to gain in popularity as a trendy libation here in the states as well, which demonstrates just how ahead of the curve Peru is. With food and drink like that, why go anywhere else?
