There's some great news coming in today for Latinos from the world of higher education. NBC Latino reports that the number of colleges and universities recognized as Hispanic-Serving Institutions has increased from 311 in 2010-2011 to 356 in 2011-2012. The larget jump ever seen during a single year!

Big news for Chile. The South American country has been accepted into the U.S. Visa Waiver program, Fox News Latino reports. To date, it is the only Latin American country that is part of the program. 

During a press conference this week, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera spoke about the country being included in a program that includes about 30 countries.

Latinos aren’t the happiest bunch. According to a Harris Poll survey of 2,345 Americans, Hispanics fared the worst when it comes to cheerfulness. Just 28 percent of those surveyed said that they were “very happy,” which is down 35 percent from 2011.

The survey was conducted online between April 10 and 15, 2013 by Harris Interactive, a market research firm headquartered in New York, New York.

Latino Models in High Demand in Minnesota

New York, Los Angeles and Miami are the model meccas of the world, but with so many aspiring models, the competition is fierce. So what's a Latina to do? Move to Minnesota! At least that's what Minnesota casting agencies suggest.

According to MPRNews, Latino models are in high demand in Minnesota. Paola Cardenas, a Colombian modelo who lives in Minnesota, says she's only one of four professional Latina models in the state.

Robi Draco Rosa is the latest celebrity to beat cancer. The 43-year-old musician/songwriter took to Twitter late last week to share the joyous news and announce that he is officially cancer free.

The Puerto Rican rocker was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2011. The former Menudo band member underwent treatment for 18 months and is currently cancer free. Draco Rosa took to Twitter on May 30, 2013 to announce the incredible news: "Familia: I went in yesterday for a pet scan. Today my results came in; I'm free. So happy!! #cancerfree #celebration #love #faith #gratitude."
