The San Diego border opened this weekend, briefly, to Mexico, and the scene was an emotional one for many. After officials opened the gate in Friendship Park, a small park along the border, family members got to see and touch their loved ones they hadn't touched in many years. One of these loved ones was Luis Angulo, who lives in the U.S. on a temporary visa. He was able to hug his 5-year-old daughter, Jimena, for the first time ever.

Yikes! It seems earthquakes in Chile have done far worse than suspected -- actually deforming the Earth's crust. Structural geologist Richard Allmendinger of Cornell University, along with his colleagues, have found that major earthquakes (with a magnitude 7 or higher) have apparently caused the crust in Northern Chile to crack permanently.

After months of investigation, Chilean police arrested four members of a sect for burning a 3-year-old baby alive because the leader believed the child was the antichrist. The toddler was thrown into a bonfire during a ritual in the town of Colliguay last November.
