Latino X Factor Contestant, Carlos Guevara, Reveals His Struggle With Tourette's

Carlos Guevara, a Latino X Factor contestant with Tourette’s syndrome, revealed how music helped him deal with his disorder.

People reports that sixteen-year-old Guevara was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder when he was 12, but did not display major symptoms of Tourette’s until years later.

“At the beginning of my freshman year, I was on the football team and was elected vice president of the entire school. It seemed like my life was perfect,” he said, “But then all of the sudden it was like a storm.”

The disruptive nature of his Tourettes-related outbursts eventually forced him to leave his high school in Lexington, South Carolina, and the Sunday services at the church where his father is a pastor.

Despite these setbacks, Guevara set new goals for himself outside of academics and auditioned for the X Factor.
