NYC Latino Voters Crucial to Mayor Race

"Any Latino has an advantage with the Latino community simply because they become a rallying point for their dreams and aspirations," said Carrion.

Per 2011 U.S. Census data half of the city's Latinos are citizens over 18 and would be eligible to vote, which would have a great impact on the November election.

It is because of this that candidates have made it a point to attend Latino events and visit neighborhoods with a large Latino population.

In the 2009 mayor race, Latinos made up for one-fifth of the votes.
