Latino Gay Couple Says They Were Technically the First LGBT "Cutest Couple"

After Dylan Meehan and Brad Taylor won Internet fame after being voted “cutest couple” at their high school, another gay couple in New York has come forward to claim they were they were the first gay couple to receive a similar accolade.

This week, a classmate of Dylan and Brad posted a photo of the couple on her Tumblr blog and, within 24 hours, it had been shared almost 100,000 times, the Huffington Post reports.

“Two of my best friends won Cutest Couple of our senior class. First time in my school history a same sex couple has even been able to run for this category, not to mention winning it,” she wrote in the post, accompanied by the image of the couple in their high school yearbook. “So proud of them, and my school."

After the New York Daily News ran a story about the win, friends of Jose Santiago and Osvaldo Soto encouraged them to come forward with their story. The Latino couple, known by the nicknames Jay and Ozzy, received the “class couple” award by a vote of their peers at James Madison High School in 2008.

“When your article came out a bunch of our old high school friends contacted us on Facebook and said, no way, you guys were the first!” Santiago said in an interview with the Daily News.

No telling whether or not the Latino couple will hold the record as the first gay couple to receive such an honor from their high school classmates by voting.

Jay and Ozzy, who began dating in 2006, are still going strong.

“He was my first boyfriend, and I fell in love with him the moment I first saw him,” Ozzy said of his partner.
