A Latina Named Political Director of Obama's Reelection Campaign!

President Obama has appointed Katherine Archuleta as the Political Director of his 2012 reelection campaign, dubbed Obama for America. She is the first Latina to ever hold this position for a major presidential campaign.

Previously, Archuleta, a native of Denver, CO served as chief of staff for Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. Prior to that appointment, she was a senior adviser for policy and initiatives to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and has worked in government for over 18 years.

Archuleta also has extensive experience in the non-profit arena, as Executive Director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation and as co-founder of both Semilla Group, a women-owned consulting group focused on community development, and the Center for Regional and Neighborhood Action, a nonprofit organization engaged in regional growth management.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar had nothing but praise for Archuleta when asked about her appointment by the Denver Post yesterday: "Her understanding of the issues of the West are important, and the understanding in the Latino community is important as well."

Obama’s campaign said that Archuleta will be tasked with Latino outreach as well as being in charge of "outreach to elected officials and groups,"

Congratulations to this Latina trailblazer!
