Trading balletlike moves for hip-hop dances, Sophina DeJesus just changed the game of gymnastics forever.
The Puerto Rican gymnast breathed fresh air into Saturday's University of California, Los Angeles-Utah meet when she performed the "Quan," "Dab" and the "Whip/Nae Nae" in between her also spot-on tumbling runs.
The moves got Dejesus a score of 9.925 out of 10.000, helping her UCLA team triumph over Utah in the wire-to-wire meet and sparking a new viral video. Her unorthodox routine, and bomb electric blue hair, has already been watched on Facebook more than 23 million times and shared some 400 thousand times.
“I love dancing,” DeJesus, a 21-year-old sociology major, told the New York Times. “I wanted to end my senior year with a bang”
That the Afro-Latina did. DeJesus' two-and-a-half minute routine is arguably one of the best of all time, and the Boricua has no plans to stop anytime soon.
